On Friday, September 24, 2015, two of Jericho High School’s most beloved teachers, Ms. Kakounis and Mr. Anderle were married at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection in Brookville.

Many students and staff attended the wedding, flattering both the bride and groom. Students were excited to be able to share this exciting day with their teachers and take part in such a memorable day. Senior Amanda O. shared her sentiments. “I was personally touched that Ms. Kakounis wanted a picture with all of her students. That was really nice to me. It was my first Greek wedding and I thought it was interesting when they were walking around a table and when they wore the connected crowns. It was a sweet touch.” Senior Nico D. also attended the wedding and said, “It was really cool because I had both of them as my teachers so it was awesome.” Senior Ryan F. said “It was great seeing my two favorite teachers so happy together. Congratulations to the happy couple!”

Multiple teachers were also able to share in the joy of the day and even be in the wedding party. Social Studies teacher and best friend of Ms. Kakounis, Ms. DiGangi, was a bridesmaid and said, “Ms. Kakounis was beyond touched. The best part of her day was when she walked in the church and saw all of the students who didn’t just show up, but were all dressed up in their suits. When she walked down the aisle, the tears started and then everyone was crying–teachers, students, everyone.” Ms. DiGangi also said that she had never been to a Greek wedding before and thought it was really fun and different. As Ms. Kakounis’ best friend, she couldn’t be happier for the couple.

Principal Joan Rosenberg shared her happiness for the couple. “They are a great match – both are so organized, spirited and loyal. I wish them a lifetime of happiness.” She said that she feels like the mother of the bride and groom simultaneously, and said that this has happened many times before in Jericho’s history with teachers such as Ms. Pryhocki and Dr. Hartnett,  and Dr. Largotta-Smith and Mr. Smith.
