Easiest Hello, Hardest Goodbye

By CHARLOTTE LEIGH

The JerEcho says goodbye to our 5 seniors, who have all impacted the publication throughout their time in New Media.

Maya Masheb was the JerEcho’s Editor-in-Chief this school year. She will attend Washington University in St. Louis and hopes to major in finance. During Maya’s freshman year, she was inspired by all of the seniors in her class after seeing how passionate they were about journalism. Maya will miss the family-like atmosphere that the class has and will miss feeling proud when the JerEcho wins awards. Maya advises younger students in the class to “speak your mind and share your opinions despite what others may think of you.”

Christine Bae was the JerEcho’s Executive Editor this year. Christine will attend Northwestern University and hopes to minor in journalism. Christine’s favorite memory was when the class had a pizza party in honor of Jordana, Maya and herself being accepted into colleges. Christine’s proudest accomplishment is growing as a leader, writer and journalist. She said, “I loved learning about unbiased reporting because it’s a great skill to have for college and the rest of my life.” To all the younger New Media Communications members, Christine advises them to “stick with the class, hone your craft, have fun, and enjoy your time.”

Webmaster Jordana Pearlman will attend the University of Pennsylvania and will likely major in communications. Jordana’s favorite memory was when she had to write an article in 7 hours for the cover of the “Syosset-Jericho Tribune.” Next year, Jordana says she will miss everyone in the class, especially Ms. Valenza. She is most proud of the video she made about the school walkout after the Parkland school shooting. Jordana’s advice is to “try to get out there and be as outgoing as possible.”

Jordan Yearwood is a New Media Communications I student who will attend Clark Atlanta University next year and will major in public relations. Jordan’s favorite memory and proudest accomplishment was when her article “It’s Dope to be Black” was published. She’s also proud of always speaking her truth through her articles. She’s going to miss hanging around everyone in the class. Jordan wants all of the younger New Media students to always “stay on top of your work and listen to Ms. Valenza because it will help you in the future.”

Alex Lenneberg is also a New Media Communications I student, and he will attend the University at Buffalo this fall. Alex enjoyed the field trips to Hofstra and Adelphi this year. He’s going to miss his classmates and working with everyone. He’s most proud of the articles he wrote and “having work to show off.” He is also proud of his own website that the class inspired him to create.

The JerEcho congratulates these seniors, and is excited to see what they will accomplish in their prosperous futures ahead!
