This Project Truly Cares

By ANGELA KHURANA and GRACE ZHANG

The Project Care club visits Oyster Bay Manor Assisted Living Facility bimonthly to interact with its residents. Club members meet under the advisement of social studies teacher Ms. Bensen to plan activities for their visits such as crafts, songs, games and discussion topics.

President and senior Emilie W. loves the joy the visits provide for the senior citizens. “My favorite thing about Project Care is being able to personally interact with so many senior citizens, and bringing a smile to their faces,” she said.

Project care also gives the assisted living residents an opportunity to share their life experiences. Emilie added, “I love how this club allows us to talk with the residents one on one. This enables students to gain a wealth of knowledge and to really get to know each and every resident. I fondly remember one of the residents would always tell me his life stories every time I visited.”

Project Care seniors Dylan S., back row left, and Emilie W. planned a Valentine’s Day visit to the Oyster Bay Manor Assisted Living facility and presented residents with valentine cards and decorations.

Project Care continues to increase its popularity throughout the school. Emilie said, “When I joined Project Care in freshman year, there were barely enough students to fulfill the club’s membership requirement. Throughout the years, membership has increased tremendously. This year, I am especially proud of the many committed members, and hope to see Project Care’s membership increase even more.”
