Jericho Lacrosse Opens 2026 Season with High Expectations

BY MARCUS KRANZ ’27

On Tuesday, March 17, the Jericho Boys Varsity Lacrosse team will kick off their 2026 season against Malverne. Entering into this season, the Jayhawks have lost some key players, such as Josh Rubin and Jack Schroeder who graduated last year. However, they return with a lot of key pieces, including star goalie Jonathan Perlman ’27 defensive pairing Austin Weiss ’27 and Adam Cohen ’26, and offensive leaders Max Spector ’26, Hudson Gingold ’26, Matthew Luongo ’26, and Alan Liu ’26.

With much of the roster returning, the Jayhawks hope that experience from last year will translate into a strong start and another playoff berth. Captain Max Spector ’26 said, “The key to success this year on the offensive side is to keep moving the ball quickly and play chippy. We have a bunch of athletic kids this year that are going to play a huge role.”

Meanwhile, fellow captain Adam Cohen ’26 believes the team is ready for the new season. Cohen said, “I think what might surprise me the most is if we don’t succeed.” Cohen believes the team could have some breakout stars, particularly Mason Spector ’26 and Josh Mass ’26. He said, “We have a lot of new guys, but based on the first week of practice, everyone is picking up the sport very easily. Especially Josh [Mass], Mason [Spector], and Brad [Rosembarg ’26].” Even though these three seniors have “never picked up a stick before,” they are valuable contributions to the team, and as Cohen noted, the team is laser-focused. He said, “The boys are very committed, which I have never seen before this early in a season in my four years of varsity.”

Along with Max Spector ’26 and Adam Cohen ’26, Hudson Gingold ’26 and Alan Liu ’26 will also serve as captains. Gingold hopes that his leadership can help the Jayhawks both on and off the field. He said, “After being a part of this team for the past four years, this is my last chance to put the pads on and play with this group of guys. We have a special senior class with a great surrounding group to make something special happen this season. These guys want to win and compete, which is our number one priority. I will leave nothing behind and hope we have a successful season, with the goal to reach the playoffs for the second straight season.”

Similarly, Liu is optimistic for this season. “The season should go great,” said Liu, “We have a bunch of returning guys and a lot of newer guys who are athletes and are great additions to the team. I’m excited to see how we match up with the other teams.”

With strong team leadership and a core returning roster, the Jayhawks will be a team to watch this season.
