Meet the 2025-2026 JerEcho Staff

Mia Shu, Editor-in-Chief of The JerEcho

Mia is a senior at Jericho High School and the Editor-in-Chief of The JerEcho. A dedicated journalist since 9th grade, Mia has been an integral part of the publication throughout her high school career. Mia loves staying on top of current events and helping combat misinformation through her reporting. An artist and creative writer, as well as Jericho’s Varsity Swim Team Captain, Mia’s interests extend beyond the newsroom. Whether she’s crafting engaging news stories, capturing moments through her camera lens, or diving into a good fiction novel, Mia is always eager to learn, create, and share her voice with the community. She looks forward to covering more serious and information-heavy topics this year.

Zoya Khan, Executive Editor of The JerEcho

Zoya Khan is a senior and the Executive Editor of The JerEcho. Over the past four years, Zoya has developed a strong focus on reporting current events and political issues, particularly where local stories intersect with broader trends. She is also interested in exploring new forms of storytelling, from traditional news coverage to multimedia and visual projects, with the goal of making complex topics more accessible for students. Zoya sees journalism as a tool for educating her community and strives to expand her own understanding of the world with each story she follows. 

Bhavin Balgobind, Editor-in-Chief of Broadcast for The Jericho News Network (JNN)

Bhavin Balgobind is a 12th grader and the Editor-in-Chief of Broadcast for The JNN. Bhavin has been with the organization for 4 years and is currently working in writing, broadcasting, and hosting the series “Hawk Ones.” You can catch him at the baseball field or rooting for the G-Men on Sundays. This year, Bhavin looks forward to following in his sister’s footsteps by emphasizing The JerEcho’s representation of broadcast and the involvement of students and the community.

Vivienne Scharf, Executive Editor of Broadcast for The Jericho News Network (JNN)

Vivienne Scharf is a junior in her second year with The JerEcho. Vivienne continues with The JerEcho because she loves filming interviews and podcasts, and she enjoys bringing her own creative spin to every project. Outside of journalism, Vivienne likes watching The Basement Yard, listening to Frank Sinatra and Fleetwood Mac, and baking. In the future, she hopes to be a screenwriter or film director. Vivienne is looking forward to another year of working with The JerEcho and is excited to have a great year!

Archana Hariharan, Senior Managing Editor

Archana Hariharan has been fascinated by journalism since childhood. For Archana, journalism is a tool for driving change in her community. Her time in The JerEcho has brought many distinguished achievements, such as earning second place at the Adelphi Quill Awards with her co-reporters for “A Little Library Love.” Archana seeks out stories that inspire her and forge strong connections with readers. Reflecting on her three years with The JerEcho, she feels a deep sense of gratitude and anticipation for the future. With every article, Archana aims to spark positive change, confident that The JerEcho offers the ideal platform to leave a lasting impact on her community. 

Heer Patel, Junior Managing Editor

Heer Patel is a junior and this is her second year working with The JerEcho. Heer has a passion for writing and values creativity. Outside of the classroom, Heer enjoys listening to music, hanging out with her friends, and working out. She aspires to work in marketing and advertising one day. 

Janice Kwon, Director of Community Engagement

Janice Kwon is an 11th grader and a reporter for The JerEcho. She is also in charge of community relationships. Janice has been a part of the organization for three years and is currently an active member of The JerEcho. Outside the newsroom, she is interested in movies, guitars, and music. You can catch her in the city with headphones on and a matcha latte in hand. This year, she is looking forward to setting new goals, strengthening her writing and editing skills, and contributing to the newsroom.

Annie Zhou, Webmaster

Annie Zhou is a 12th grader and webmaster for The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for three years and is currently responsible for managing the website, ensuring that content is updated and visually engaging. Outside of the newsroom, Annie is interested in digital media, graphic design, and exploring global cuisines through her video project, Global Bites. You can often find her sketching landscapes, editing videos, or testing new recipes in the kitchen. Annie enjoys blending creativity with technology to make journalism more interactive and accessible. This year, she is excited to enhance the website’s features and help showcase the work of her fellow student journalists. She hopes to continue using her skills in media and communication in college and beyond.

Marcus Kranz, Sports Section Editor

Marcus Kranz is a junior. This is his second year with The Jerecho, where he is the Sports Section Editor.  Marcus enjoys spending time with family and friends and likes watching sports.  Marcus likes to watch and root for the Mets, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Buccaneers. Marcus wants to go to college for sports journalism. Furthermore he does sports photography for The JerEcho. He  is interested in New Media because he enjoys watching and writing about sports.

Austin Weiss, Sports Section Editor

Austin Weiss is a 11th grader and co-editor for The JerEcho Sports Section. He has been with the organization for two years, and is currently helping the paper with all things sports. Outside of the newsroom, he is interested in College and professional football and video games. You can catch him at a Jets or Mets game. He is looking forward to making cool sports pieces all year and writing about things he is passionate about. 

Aleeza Gani, JMAG Editor-in-Chief

Junior Aleeza Gani is Editor-in-Chief of the J-Mag. She has been part of The JerEcho for three years, starting as a sports writer and now contributing to the Arts & Entertainment section. Outside of writing, Aleeza has a passion for music, whether she’s singing, playing an instrument, or listening to it. She has recently gained an interest in fashion, specifically the realm of fashion media. With a love for magazines, she hopes to bring her creativity to life by developing the J-Mag this year.

Madison Lee, Head Copyeditor & Director of PR

Madison Lee is an 11th grader and Head Copy Editor for The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for two years and regularly contributes news and feature articles. Madison is interested in drawing, taking pictures, and traveling to new places. As a journalist, she loves to learn about diverse perspectives and opinions through her reporting. She is looking forward to covering more local news stories and representing others in the Jericho community this year.

Tina Sacoulas, Director of Social Media

Tina Sacoulas is a 12th grader and the Director of Social Media for The JerEcho for a second year. She has been with The JerEcho for 1 year, and is currently excited to resume her journey in the journalism world. Outside of the newsroom, you can catch her at the mall, at her dance studio, or hanging out with her friends. This year, she is looking forward to her senior year of high school and her involvement in The JerEcho. Tina enjoys video production and social media management which is why she plans to continue her journalism career in college.

Arib Ali

Arib Ali is an 11th grader and first-year reporter contributing to the Arts and Entertainment section for The JerEcho. Outside of the newsroom, they enjoy football, hanging out with friends, and exploring new music. You can often find him at football practice or streaming the latest movies. Arib is looking forward to developing his writing skills and providing engaging Arts & Entertainment coverage this year.

Sofia Boutsikos

Sofia Boutsikos is a 9th grader and first-year reporter for The JerEcho. Her passion for journalism originated from a young age, as she always aspired to be the next Kaitlan Collins. Outside of the newsroom, Sofia is interested in playing volleyball, hanging out with friends, traveling, and listening to music. Sofia is dedicated to bringing students’ perspectives and voices on current events in the high school.

Eva Brown

Eva Brown is an 11th grader and writer for The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for two years and is currently a contributor to the newspaper. Outside of the newsroom, she enjoys watching movies, building with Legos, hanging out with her cat, and baking. Eva also loves volleyball, and you can often catch her playing on the courts. She is looking forward to writing more fun and exciting articles this year.

Rehana Dhirani

Rehana Dhirani is an 11th grader who will be contributing to the Sports section of The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for two years and is currently building her experience as a dedicated writer on the staff. Outside of the newsroom, Rehana is interested in dance, spending time with friends, and volunteering in the community. You can often catch Rehana at camp in the summer or at school events supporting Jericho teams. Rehana is especially excited this year to cover stories that highlight student-athletes and bring more attention to school spirit. Rehana looks forward to strengthening her written voice and connecting with the Jericho community through their reporting.

Logan Fuller

Logan is a sophomore reporter for The JerEcho. She has been with The JerEcho for two years and is currently excited for the upcoming NFL season. In her free time, she enjoys playing flag football, watching her favorite NFL team, the Buffalo Bills, and hanging out with friends. In the future, she hopes to work in the sports industry. This year, she is looking forward to contributing to The JerEcho by focusing on sports and playing flag football in the spring.

Max Gershwind

Max is an 11th grader contributing to the Arts and Entertainment section of The JerEcho. This is Max’s first year with The JerEcho. Max is interested in working out, hanging with friends and family, and watching the Mets and the Giants. You can catch Max at Citi Field and MetLife Stadium watching his favorite team play, and you can also find Max in the Hamptons sometimes hanging with his family and friends. Max is very excited about the newsroom because he wants to talk about Arts and Entertainment to his fellow Jericho students, and what’s going on in Jericho.

Jordan Greenstein

Jordan Greenstein is a sophomore reporter for The JerEcho. This summer, Jordan participated in a broadcasting media course at Hofstra and is excited to bring all of his knowledge to the newsroom…especially the Sports section! In his spare time, you can catch Jordan at MSG for Knicks games. He is looking forward to going to soccer games and taking pictures of the players.

Madison (Maddy) Hatz

Madison (Maddy) Hatz is a 12th grader who will be a writer and social media contributor for The JerEcho. Maddy has been with the organization for two years and is currently focusing on the News and Features section while also supporting online engagement. Outside of the newsroom, Maddy is passionate about photography, music, and nonprofit work. You can often find her volunteering at Sunrise Day Camp or managing social media for Kids Need More. This year, Maddy is excited to grow as a journalist, highlight student voices, and bring creativity to The JerEcho.

Anthony Hirtzel

Anthony Hirtzel is a junior, and it is his third year writing for The JerEcho. Anthony contributes to The JerEcho because he enjoys interviewing athletes, and journalism is a field he is interested in for the future. Outside of journalism, Anthony enjoys hanging out with family and friends, playing baseball, and listening to country and rap music. One day, Anthony hopes to be a teacher. He is looking forward to another great year of working with The JerEcho!

Achint Kaur

Achint Kaur is an 11th grader and writer for The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for 2 years, and currently contributes to the World/Local news section. Outside of the newsroom, Achint is interested in reading, watching movies, and baking. You can usually find Achint at the beach or hanging out with her friends. This year, she is looking forward to growing as a writer and making connections with the Jericho community through The JerEcho.

Emmy Libertoff

Emmy Libertoff is a sophomore reporter for The JerEcho. She has been with The JerEcho for 2 years, and is currently excited for homecoming! Outside of the news room, she is interested in watching sports and listening to music. You can catch her at a Yankee game! She is looking forward to being a part of The JerEcho again!

Chuheng Lou

Chuheng Lou is a 10th grader and reporter for The JerEcho. Outside of the newsroom, she is interested in fine arts and golf. You can catch her at the studio and driving range. This is the first year that she has engaged in this new experience, willing to gain more capability with her public interviewing skills and tactics of writing journalism.

Aditi Ramanathan

Aditi Ramanathan is a 12th grader contributor for The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for 2 years. Outside of the newsroom, she is interested in playing sports such as basketball and tennis. She also loves watching shows, shopping at the mall with her friends, eating out at restaurants, and getting her daily coffee at Starbucks. She is looking forward to expanding my interviewing skills and writing articles that spotlight the school community.

Istafa Razvi

Istafa Razvi is a 12th grader and a video editor, as well as contributor for The JerEcho. This is his first time being with the organization. In his free time, he likes to skateboard and play video games. Most of the time, you can see him at his house or the park. He looks forward to making videos for The JerEcho & JNN and improving his video production skills.

Olivia Robbins

Olivia Robbins is a 12th grader and reporter for The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for three years and is currently a writer covering arts, entertainment, and student life at the school. Outside of the newsroom, she enjoys hanging out with friends and family. She is looking forward to working on the “Hot or Cold” broadcast segment and making interesting articles.

Ethan Rubin

Ethan Rubin is a sophomore at Jericho High School. He is a second year contributor to The JerEcho. Outside of the newsroom, Ethan is interested in playing tennis and baking. This year, Ethan is looking forward to taking photos of sports games, and writing good articles.

Sasha Savel

Sasha Savel is a 12th grader and reporter who will be an editor and writer for The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for three years and is currently a writer covering arts, entertainment, and student life. She is also the editor for the JNN’s “Hot or Cold” segment. Outside of the newsroom, Sasha enjoys hanging out with friends, listening to music, and going on runs. She is looking forward to creating interesting articles and voicing student opinions.

Charley Scharf, Copyeditor

Charley is a 10th grader who is a contributor and copyeditor for The JerEcho‘s sports section. This is her second year working with The JerEcho. Outside of the newsroom, Charley is interested in dance, art, and flag football. You can catch her at the dance studio, in the car listening to Morgan Wallen, or in her basement with a coloring book. She is looking forward to being more involved in writing and contributing to The JerEcho. 

Devyn Siegel

Devyn is a 10th grader and contributor to the sports section of The JerEcho. This is Devyn’s 1st year working with The JerEcho. She initially decided to take New Media because she’s interested in watching sports games and podcasting. Outside of the Newsroom, you can catch her spending quality time with her family and friends, dancing, or listening to music. Devyn is looking forward to learning new things and meeting new people through her work at The JerEcho.

Jesse Tanner

Introducing Jesse Tanner! Jesse is a 12th grader and reporter who will be a contributor for The JerEcho. This is his first year with The JerEcho, and he is currently excited about being responsible for Badminton’s Media Day. Outside of the newsroom, he is interested in mixed martial arts and basketball. You can catch him at Tiger Schulmann’s in Syosset, throwing punches and kicks. Jesse is looking forward to contributing to The JerEcho for the first time. Additionally, he is excited about Media Day for badminton and interviewing the coaches and players on the team.

Annie Tian

Annie is a 9th grader who will be a contributor for The JerEcho. This will be her first year being with this organization. Outside of the newsroom, she is interested in creative writing, specifically science fiction prose. You can catch her hanging out with her friends at the park or squirreled away at home, listening to music. She is looking forward to being able to meet new people this year. In the newsroom, she is looking forward to being able to do research for articles that align with her interests.

Ella Webb

Ella Webb is a 12th grader who will be an interviewer and writer for The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for 3 years, and is currently a writer for Arts & Entertainment, and has done pieces on student life in the school. Ella is the interviewer for the JNN’s “Hot or Cold” segment. Outside of the Newsroom, Ella enjoys hanging out with friends and family, listening to music, DJ-ing, and prioritizing her health by working out and eating healthy. She is looking forward to making interesting articles and interviewing students for their opinions on specific subjects.

Madi Zhou

Madi Zhou is a sophomore reporter for The JerEcho. She has been with the organization for one year. Outside of the newsroom, she is interested in art and music. You can catch her roaming around the halls looking for her classes. This year, she’s looking forward to being more involved in The JerEcho and hopes to see more interesting news pieces!

Noah Zucker

Noah Zucker is an 11th grader at Jericho High School and a contributor to the sports section of The JerEcho. In his first month with the newspaper, he looks forward to providing sports updates for Jericho students.

Mrs. Vlavianos

Mrs. Vlavianos is the advisor of The JerEcho & JNN, as well as the New Media I-IV teacher at Jericho High School.
