Over the weekend, I went to Umberto’s in New Hyde Park, which many Long Islanders consider a go-to spot. I went on Saturday night with a friend, and it was packed. There was a 20-minute wait just for a table for two.
First, we started with buffalo chicken wings, which were okay at best. Umberto’s didn’t put the buffalo sauce on the wings; they put it on the side, which is pretty much always a red flag for wings. Along with the sauce, Umberto’s also served a side of bleu cheese. The wings were alright—they lacked a little bit of seasoning and flavor overall, but when I dipped them into the buffalo sauce and bleu cheese the taste became a little better. Overall, I would give the wings a 7.2 out of 10; not bad, but just not that good.
For my main, I got two buffalo chicken slices. The pizza itself was solid, but the buffalo chicken lacked a little bit of flavor for the pizza. I would give the buffalo chicken slice a 7.7 out of 10, which is still a very good score.
Ultimately, I would give Umberto’s of New Hyde Park a 7.5 out of 10.
Would I go back? Yes, I would go back if I were nearby, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.
