Merry Movie Season

By CHARLOTTE LEIGH

The holidays are such a special time of year filled with baking cookies, spending time with your family, and, of course, binge watching your favorite Christmas movies! As a self-proclaimed holiday movie expert, here are my recommendations for the top 10 Christmas movies to watch on Netflix this season.

10. “Christmas in the Wild”

“Christmas in the Wild” is a Netflix 2019 release. The movie begins after Kate Conrad’s husband decides to leave her. Kate decides to go on what was supposed to be their second honeymoon to Africa. During Kate’s flight to her resort, Pilot Derek makes an emergency landing when he finds a traumatized elephant. Kate is amazed by the elephant and wants to do all she can to help. Kate decides to extend her stay in Africa with Pilot Derek, and see where her new life of helping elephants can take her. This romantic drama is great to watch with a loved one or friends. The movie progresses at a slow pace, but has an overall positive message about helping others and staying in the holiday spirit.

9. “Christmas With a View”

“Christmas With a View” begins with the main protagonist Clara working at a new restaurant after previously failing to run her own in Chicago. News circulates that celebrity chef Shane will be named head chef of the new restaurant and Clara is filled with anger. After having multiple run-ins, the two begin to form an unexpected friendship. With the holiday season nearing, Clara begins to ponder whether the holiday spirit will lead to more than just a friendship. This movie is the perfect Christmas romance story and will get you into the spirit.

8. “Christmas Inheritance”

After causing a scene and therefore ruining her father’s Christmas gala and losing his trust, heiress Ellen Langford wants to prove to her father that she can handle responsibilities. She is given the task of delivering letters to the small town Snow Falls during the week leading up to Christmas. When a snowstorm traps her inside her hotel, Ellen is able to meet the simple people of Snow Falls which helps her realize what she’s missing in her upper-class life. The only problem is she’s too scared to tell the people living in Snow Falls who she really is, and she’s worried about what they’ll do if they find out. This movie is full of twists and turns that will take you on an emotional roller coaster, and it will leave you with an inspiring message.

7. “Let It Snow”

“Let It Snow” is a Netflix 2019 release. The movie is based on the young adult novel “Let It Snow” by Maureen Johnson, John Green and Lauren Myracle. “Let It Snow” takes place in a small town on Christmas Eve during a bad snowstorm. The movie simultaneously shares 4 different stories about love, friendship and family. This movie contains all different kinds of love and relationships while still staying in the holiday spirit. However, it lacks a bit of cohesion.

6. “Christmas Wedding Planner”

Kelsey loves weddings and has finally landed her dream job as a wedding planner. After being hired to plan her cousin’s lavish wedding, Kelsey is under constant pressure to make it the most perfect occasion. Kelsey’s plan is going off without any problems, when private investigator Connor McClaine comes into the picture. Kelsey is immediately frustrated by Connor’s presence, but she knows they will have to work through their issues if they both want to be successful at their jobs.

5. “Christmas In the Smokies”

When Shelby’s family farm in the Smokies is in need of saving, Shelby reaches out to her country music star ex-boyfriend to arrange a concert. Despite the way their relationship ended, Shelby is willing to work through their differences to help her family. Those with a love for country music will fall head over heels for this Christmas movie.

4. “The Christmas Chronicles”

“The Christmas Chronicles” isn’t a typical Christmas movie with a plot concerning a love story. Siblings Kate and Teddy Pierce conduct a plan in order to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. The two realize Santa is near, but he’s in trouble. Their night turns into the journey of a lifetime and a Christmas Eve they will never forget.

3. “A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding”  and “A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby”

“A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding” is the sequel to “A Christmas Prince.” This movie continues Amber and Richard’s story following their wild journey in the first movie. With their wedding coming up so soon, Amber finds herself struggling over whether or not she thinks she’s ready to be a queen. In the just released “A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby” Amber and Richard are expecting their first baby, and if they don’t sign a treaty with a faraway kingdom by midnight on New Year’s Eve, a curse will be brought upon their firstborn.

2. “A Christmas Prince”

Aspiring American journalist Amber is sent to the foreign nation Aldovia to report on a story featuring Prince Richard, who will soon be crowned King of the nation. When Amber is mistaken to be Princess Emily’s tutor, she decides not to tell the truth about who she is in order to stay in the palace and get a closer look at things. Amber begins to have a moral dilemma: should she tell the truth and sacrifice her relationship with Richard, or keep living a lie?

  1. “The Princess Switch”

“The Princess Switch” starring Vanessa Hudgens begins when American baker Stacy DeNovo and her best friend Kevin Richards win a baking contest that will take place in the foreign country Belgravia. Stacy finds herself in a crazy situation when she and Lady Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montanero, realize they are doppelgängers. The two decide to secretly trade lives for the time Stacy has left in Belgravia. When Lady Margaret begins to have feelings for Kevin, and Stacy begins to have feelings for Lady Margaret’s fiancé Prince Edward, the two women are both put into complicated situations and don’t know what to do or who to tell.
