The Jericho varsity boys and girls volleyball teams finished very successful seasons with both advancing to the playoffs. Recently, members of the girls volleyball team won several awards at the Nassau County Volleyball Dinner to conclude their season.

“Our team has a great bond. We are all very supportive of one another and work to pick each other up,” said senior Alanna P., bottom right.

The girls went undefeated in the regular season with a record of 14-0, which earned them the title of Conference Champions as well as a spot in the playoffs. The team’s special bond greatly contributed to their incredible season. Senior captain Amy S. said, “This year our team had such great chemistry that pushed us to play better and succeed. We became a family who encouraged and supported one another on and off the court which was really special and important in our success.” Coach Herbert, who was recognized as the Conference 4 Coach of the Year at the recent awards dinner, continuously encouraged the players to work harder and motivated them to always do their best. He said, “The highlight of my coaching career was to go undefeated, and the group of girls that I had made it all that more rewarding. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.”

The players worked extremely hard this season. Senior Alanna P. said, “It’s a challenge to win just one game, never mind winning every single one–14-0 is very difficult no matter what sport or what division. We are all proud to have finished this season undefeated. ”

Unfortunately, the Jayhawks lost against Wantagh in the first round of playoffs, ending their season. However, the players will forever cherish the experiences they shared. Senior Drew N. said, “This season couldn’t have gone better. I will definitely miss playing with everyone on the team.”

The Jericho boys varsity volleyball team plans to come back strong next year.

The boys varsity volleyball team won several games this season and clinched a spot in the playoffs as well. Many key components contributed to the team’s success. Senior captain Michael P. said, “Our determination to keep on improving definitely pushed us to always try our best.” In the first round of playoffs, the Jayhawks battled against Bellmore JFK, who eliminated Jericho in the county finals last year. The Jericho volleyball team fell short and unfortunately did not pull out a win. The end to the season was bittersweet. Senior Austin C. said, “I am sad to see such a great season end. The dynamic of the team was one like no other and I will definitely miss this sport next year.”

The players on both teams had special bonds that led to great chemistry on and off the court, and the teams’ eliminations in the playoff round do not detract from their success.
