Ms. Z. Has a Whole Lot of History

By SAMARA MEHTA

Ms. Zendrian is one of Jericho High School’s new hires, teaching both global and United States history. She is a huge supporter of teaching via digital platforms and is so excited to connect with all of her students, both online and in-person.

Ms. Zendrian has been teaching for 7 years. She attended Mount Saint Mary College in Newburg, New York where she majored in history with a concentration in Adolescent Education and Students with Disabilities. She also minored in psychology. She has her first master’s in Adolescent Education in Social Studies from St. John’s University, and is studying for her second master’s in Educational Technology from Molloy College which she will complete this May.

Ms. Zendrian previously worked at a Catholic school called Our Lady of Mercy Academy. She was particularly drawn to Jericho because of her enthusiasm regarding our school’s social studies teachers. She said, “I heard amazing things about how much they collaborate and how much they support each other.”

In October 2019, Ms. Zendrian had the opportunity to present at the annual professional development conference for the Long Island Council for the Social Studies where she discussed technology development in schools.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Zendrian is trying to develop a relationship with all her students, despite the deep division between in-school and online learners.

New social studies teacher Ms. Zendrian integrates technology into each of her lesson plans, including a brochure project about ancient civilizations.

One thing many of Ms. Zendrian’s students agree on is how she engages both in-school and online learners.¨Ms. Zendrian is a great teacher, and she allows the students at school and students who are virtual to have the same experience,” said fully-remote freshman Camryn Y.

Freshman Ashka D. said, ¨Ms. Zendrian is a really nice teacher. I like how she is able to keep remote learners active in the activities we do. Ms. Zendrians’s class is a class that I’m always looking forward to.”

Ms. Zendrian is excited to work at Jericho High School and is quite enthusiastic about developing new experiences within the Jericho community.
