Fourteen Farewells

By SUZANNE VALENZA

This year the JerEcho says farewell to 14 remarkable student journalists. We will miss them so much, but wish them the very best as they continue their journeys.

Katie Tian

I knew when I met you as a freshman, that if you stayed in New Media you’d be the Editor-in-chief one day. What I didn’t know was what a stellar leader you’d be. Thank you for all you have done every day to raise our content to new heights, to report hard news with a passion, to set the bar high while remaining helpful and accessible to younger classmates. I will miss your intelligent mind and your very kind heart. Harvard is so lucky to have you.

Zaara Malik

What will the JerEcho do without its soul? You have given us your passion for journalism, your depth of reporting, your persistence, and that strong voice. Not only have you helped bring JerEcho news reporting to higher levels, you made sure to bring up the younger reporters along with you. Thank you for all the connections you made, the community you built and the compassion you modeled. I cannot wait to observe your journey and all your success at Syracuse Newhouse.

Xavier Lemus

Wow. That’s all there is to say. You came in and made it happen: hype videos, artistic sports photography, interviewing, and on-the-spot reporting. I am thrilled you found a new passion. Thanks for getting our first ever Sports Journalism course off to such a successful start. Your energy and enthusiasm are appreciated and contagious! Go show Penn State what you have to offer!

Eric Zimmerman

I counted on you for always being an honest and critical thinker. You kept our work on a steady course and made sure we stayed relevant and responsible. I appreciate all your expertise with film and media and hope you continue to use your voice as you start your next chapter at WashU.

Tess Silverman

In only two years with New Media you wore so many hats:  reporter, writer, editor, organizer, leader. Thank you for always being willing to wear those hats and help out in whatever way you could. Your clear thinking and honesty helped make the JerEcho even better. I will certainly miss all your assistance. Go show those Texans how to get things done!

Ivy Ni

Shuchen Ni, aka Ivy, aka Quiet Storm, aka Artist, aka Reliable. Thank you for the kindness, commitment and compassion you showed all year. You were a natural at this, and I only wish you had taken New Media earlier in your high school career. I am so proud of your maturity and leadership in our class, and for spotlighting some very important issues. Good luck at Parsons and make sure to share your college creations with us.

Jacob Solomon

From day one you made sure to get the story, the shots, and the quotes. You did a great job of putting together your reports and repping Hawk spirit. We wish you all the best at Brandeis and know that even more success is in your future.

Noah Inoff

I truly appreciate your willingness to record our athletes and take necessary photos after school. Whenever we were in a bind, you stepped up. Thanks for helping us get the content we needed to produce the packages, hype reels and slide shows we are now known for. May your time at Buffalo be engaging and enriching beyond your expectations.

Raghav Patel

Raghav, the sports photographer. Raghav, the videographer. Raghav, the historian. These are just a few of the hats you wore this year as you helped get the Sports Journalism course up and running. I appreciate all your hard work and your sense of responsibility. You added a level of fun and depth to our daily classes, and always with such kindness.

Brandt Morgan

I am so glad you joined Sports Journalism and helped build our new program. Thank you for contributing your reports, ideas, and positive energy to our work. I am proud to have been part of your incredible journey and to have provided you with a space to tell your story. Look out, Ohio State! You’ve got a remarkable young man joining your ranks.

Samantha Schroeder

Samantha, you covered all the bases this year and helped us stay in the know for just about every sport during every season. Thank you for your commitment to Sports Journalism and to Jericho. Your school spirit and sense of responsibility made a difference. I cannot wait to hear about all your success at Sacred Heart.

Sophie Liu

You are always someone to turn to for a clever idea, new way to approach a topic, or a fun spin on an old form. Thank you for all you did to bring your ideas to the JerEcho and for leading the Video Yearbook to its first ever premiere viewing. Fordham is lucky to have you, and I’m sure that you will make your mark there as you did here.

Ava Thanus

Ava, we could always count on you to make our class more fun. Not only were you an excellent reporter, but you made us laugh with every practice interview, video, and podcast. Thank you for shining your light upon us and always brightening our days. Look out NYU and NYC! The sun will shine brighter on Manhattan next year!

Jason Wu

It was a pleasure getting to know you this year. We wish you all the best as you move on to your next chapter. May your post secondary plans bring you happiness and contentment.
