Acing the Future

By AAHANA ARYA and JOANNA KWAK

The varsity girls tennis team fought hard all season. The girls ended their season winning 8 games and only losing 3 times—twice to Great Neck North and once to Wheatley.

The team consisted of 7 seniors and 11 underclassmen who built close bonds with one another. Freshman Miranda M. expressed her sadness about the seniors leaving. She said, “There were certain moments during the season I never want to let go, especially with the seniors. They are our role models and we’re going to miss them a whole lot.”

The 7 seniors had a great last run. Seniors Maansi K. and Gargi S. reflected on the season. “Even though we weren’t conference champions, it was being a part of such an amazing team filled with such amazing people that made it the best season so far;” Maansi said.

Gargi added, “It truly made our senior year, and we’ll forever treasure the memories we made with our teammates.”

Coach Schuster is impressed with the skills and techniques shown by this team. He said, “The strength of the team is its depth.”

He expressed how excited he was for the future because of how much youth the team consists of. He added, “We have an 8th grader playing singles one, a 9th grader playing singles 2 and singles 3, so we’re just going to get better.”

In the postseason, the girls showed their character and commitment to service by hosting a teacher-student tournament to help raise money for breast cancer. The tournament consisted of 32 doubles teams of one teacher and one team member. Senior Anisha K. said, “I loved seeing how much fun the teachers and team had. Our last on-court team gathering was really special.”

Senior Gargi S. and social studies teacher Mr. Engelke were the tournament victors.
