Spanish teacher Ms. Egan joins the Jericho community dedicated to a fulfilling and rewarding school year.

Her passion for education and world languages came as no surprise. “I’m glad I was able to pursue this path and I’ve always had an interest in the Spanish language, so I was grateful that my interests were able to come together,” said Ms. Egan.

Ms. Egan double majored in Spanish Language and Literature and International Political Economy at Fordham University for her undergraduate education. She then attended New York University where she earned a master’s degree in education.

Having previously worked in New York City, Ms. Egan appreciates the difference in atmosphere at Jericho. “I’ve noticed that Jericho is a more community-oriented school, and I’ve been impressed by how driven the students are here,” said Ms. Egan.

Ms. Egan varies her teaching methods to match with her students’ interests and learning styles. “I’ve noticed that students really like being interactive and doing hands-on learning. They like learning a lot from their peers,” said Ms. Egan.

Students feel Ms. Egan is an optimistic person with an excitement and love for teaching. Sophomore Sadie K. said, “She is very enthusiastic which makes her class more engaging and separates her from other teachers.”

Sophomore Skylar W. said, “Ms. Egan makes learning the Spanish language fun by including games and group projects so we can learn well and have a good time while doing so.”

Ms. Egan is pleased with how much her students have made a difference for her. “They’ve definitely impacted how I view teaching. They really have this innate desire to learn,” said Ms. Egan.

World Language Curriculum Associate Dr. Lionel Chan is confident that Ms. Egan is a perfect new addition to Jericho High School. Dr. Chan said, “She is a very caring and kind person, so I think she is a great match for our school.”

Outside of school, Ms. Egan enjoys spending time with friends and family. She finds joy in traveling, especially to Spain and Colombia.
