From Classmates to Soulmates: The Love is Real at Jericho High School

BY JANICE KWON ’27

On Homecoming Day of 2025, I was filming B-Roll for The JNN when I stumbled upon Jericho High School graduates, Karen B. ’15 and Michael C. ’15. These alum were not dressed for the Homecoming game under the lights, but instead were in their finest wedding attire, getting photographed on campus to commemorate the start of their love.

The newlyweds, who had been dating since their senior year of high school, attribute Jericho to being the origin of their love story. They said, “Jericho is where we both grew up and started dating. After 11 years of being together, we finally got married!”

Karen said, “We started dating in 12th grade while attending Jericho High School, so we thought it made sense to stop by the place where it all started on our wedding day!” After high school, they continued dating long-distance and then studied abroad in Athens, Greece, together.

Out of all their high school years, they enjoyed their senior year the most. While balancing their academic life and relationship, the couple recalled applying to colleges, attending prom, and graduating together.

In my interview with Karen and Michael, I was surprised to learn that they weren’t the only Jericho High School sweethearts that made it to the altar. Alumni Alexa B. ’14 and Chris G. ’14, also wed earlier in 2025.

Alexa and Chris first met in sixth grade due to overlapping classes in middle school. Before they started dating, Chris would always walk Alexa to art class, even if that caused him to be late to Spanish every day. Alexa said, “We became closer our junior year, first as friends and then dating. We got to know each other better on our field trips with AP Bio to the Cold Spring Harbor Lab, where we were lab partners.”

Jericho still remains significant to the couple, as it was the place where they not only began dating, but also formed close relationships with friends. Their favorite memories included Prom and their shared classes together. Additionally, they said, “We love to dance, and we had a great time celebrating our accomplishments from our time at Jericho before heading off to college.”

While Jericho High School is known as a hub for academic excellence, it’s clear that the school is also home to budding love stories with lasting memories for generations to come. So next time you feel butterflies, don’t just write it off as a high school fling. As Karen, Michael, Alexa, and Chris have proven, high school sweethearts can truly go the distance.
