Jericho High School Girls Wrestling Celebrates Three All-County Finishes

BY AUSTIN WEISS ’27

The Jericho Jayhawks Girls Wrestling Team put together an impressive season, highlighted by three All-County performances and significant growth across the entire roster. Through perseverance, year-round training, and a competitive schedule, the Jayhawks continue to establish themselves as a rising force on Long Island.

At the All-County championship, Jimin Hur ’26 earned third place at 138 pounds, battling through adversity to reach the podium. Just two weeks before the County Championships, Hur suffered an ankle injury and also made the decision to move up in weight after entering the season as last year’s returning champion. Competing in one of the toughest brackets in the tournament, she showed resilience and determination to secure a hard-fought third place finish in her senior year. A four-year wrestler who began her career primarily competing on the boys team, Hur’s experience, along with her background as a fourth-degree black belt in Taekwondo gave her a competitive edge throughout the season. Hur attributed her All County win to her grit. She said, “I felt like I wanted the win more than the others. So I worked for it.”

At the County Championships, Olivia Georgiady ’29 continued her upward trajectory, placing third at 120 pounds after finishing fourth in the county as an eighth grader last season. Facing elite competition, including a New York State runner up twice in one weekend, Georgiady proved she belongs among the top wrestlers in her weight class. Her third place match showcased her confidence and aggressive style, reflecting the growth her coaches emphasized all season. A multi-sport athlete who also competes in JV football and Taekwondo, Georgiady is expected to lead the team next year and is positioned for continued success.

Katie Kavartskhava ’29 captured fourth place at 185 pounds in her first full competitive season. With a background in mixed martial arts and JV soccer, she brings strength, athleticism, and a powerful headlock to the mat. Her coachability and steady improvement were key factors in her All-County finish.

The Jayhawks competed in every major tournament on Long Island and trained in a high intensity environment alongside the boys team, raising the level of focus and preparation. With nine wrestlers expected to return next season and strong leadership in place, Jericho Girls Wrestling is building momentum and laying the foundation for even greater achievements ahead.
