Jericho Baseball Caps Off Challenging 1-13 Season with Eyes on Growth for the 2027 Program

It has been a rough season on the diamond for the Jericho Jayhawks. Jericho’s series against W.T. Clarke High School began with a mercy-rule loss on April 21, when Clarke’s Hofstra commit pitcher Matt Kurz ’26 threw an exceptional outing with 10 strikeouts in his five-inning perfect game against Jericho.  

This series against Clarke continued on April 22, when Jericho lost 12-0, moving the Jayhawks’ record down to 1-7. In this game, Clarke’s Farmingdale State commit Richard Luke ’26 struck out seven batters and allowed three hits. Jericho’s Justin Walsh ’26, Matthew Waters ’26, and Josh Margolin ’26 each had a hit and went 1-for-2 on the day. On April 24, Clarke sealed their third series win against Jericho, with a 13-2 loss, moving the Jayhawks down to 1-8 on the season. Clarke’s Grady Rick ’26 and Nick Buffolino ’27 went 2-for-2 with three runs batted in. Jericho’s Dylan Grotas ’27 went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Logan Ho ’28 went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Matthew Waters went 1-for-3 with a run. 

On April 28, Jericho’s record went down to 1-9 after their 6-5 loss to Mepham.  Jericho’s Dylan Grotas  went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Jericho. Mepham’s James Quilty ’26 went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, and two runs scored. On April 29, Jericho lost to Mepham High School 7-1. Mepham’s Grady Delucia ’26 had three RBIs, Teagan Cardona ’27 had three SBs, and Connor Flynn ’27 pitched a scoreless inning of relief. In the last game of the Mepham series on May 2,  Jericho lost to Mepham, 10-0. Mepham’s Kyle Zinger ’28 went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and Teagan Cardona  hit a homerun to lead Mepham to their eleventh win of the season. Mepham’s win ran Jericho’s record down to 1-11 after this loss. 

On May 5, Jericho started their last two-game set against Levittown’s Division Avenue High School. Jericho lost 21-1. Jason Perez ’26 and Aiden Susi ’26 both went 2-for-2. Perez had four RBIs, while Susi had three RBIs. Shane Villaume ’26 secured the win for Division. 

Jericho capped off their season on May 6, with a final loss to Division, losing 11-0. In this game, Division’s Tyler Scarry ’26 threw an exceptional outing, including a five-inning no-hitter totaling 55 pitches. Mike Sica ’26 totaled three hits on three at-bats and scored two runs, while Luca Hafner ’27 had two RBIs. Jericho ended the season with a record of 1-13, with room to grow as a program in the future.
