A Night to Remember: JHS’s First Junior Prom Lives Up to the Hype

BY NOAH ZUCKER ’27

Friday, May 15, marked Jericho High School’s first-ever junior prom, specifically called Junior Banquet. Held in both the high school cafeteria and the courtyard, the “Under the Stars”-themed event exceeded expectations, thanks to the atmosphere that the Class of 2027 Student Council created. The food at Junior Banquet was delicious, the weather was amazing, and the DJ  was great. Although many juniors attended because they didn’t want to miss out on Jericho’s first junior prom, everyone left happy and satisfied with the night.

Given the novelty of the event, no one really knew what to expect. Students were kindly greeted at the entry by Dr. Micheala Finlay, Mr. Brian Cummings, and Mr. Demetrios Mendonis before checking in. These administrators’ warm welcomes set the tone for a fabulous night, while making all junior class attendees feel special.

The actual Junior Banquet space consisted of a transformed cafeteria and courtyard space. There was white drapery, string lights, balloons, and strobe lights to make the atmosphere feel like we were really under the stars. In the senior cafeteria, the food was laid out in a buffet, with options such as mac ‘n cheese bites, french fries, mozzarella sticks, bagel bites, and a PTA-sponsored soda stand as a special treat. Most groups danced together and appreciated the DJ’s set, which consisted of party hits. Juniors appreciated how we could enjoy the energy of the actual banquet space, as well as the beautiful night out in the courtyard with friends.

Junior Banquet was an awesome event that left the junior class united. The grade was able to come together and make memories before senior prom rolls around, when it feels too late. So many different people from the grade, who don’t necessarily interact often, were able to attend and have fun together.

The Class of 2027 student council has successfully planned and executed an incredible event that brought the grade together. Hopefully, future juniors will continue to attend the event in years to come.
