It may not be football season, but the pigskin was flying on the High School turf on Monday, June 1, when the Jayhawks hosted a youth football clinic to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness and the Jericho Football Program.
The clinic welcomed boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade, giving them the opportunity to learn football fundamentals such as route running, how to pull the flags, and how to throw a football. The young athletes were taught by Jericho High School’s Varsity players and coaches.
Event organizer and Jericho’s varsity quarterback Austin Weiss ’27 said that the clinic was created with many intentions in mind. “We wanted to raise money for pink-themed accessories for Breast Cancer Awareness month and to also build the future of the program,” said Austin.
This event gave children a chance to improve their football skills while connecting with members of the high school football program, building spirit for the program ahead of its upcoming season. Austin said, “It was really nice to get all the kids together for a good cause and to help out our program. It was a lot of fun for everyone involved.”
Youth clinics like this one can greatly benefit the community beyond just fundraising. Jericho Athletic Director Mr. Brett Kornblum said, “One of the greatest benefits of youth athletic clinics is their ability to create meaningful connections between young athletes and the programs they aspire to join. Clinics provide opportunities for skill development, foster a love for sports and physical activity, and help build confidence in a supportive environment.”
The June 1 clinic was one of many that will continue to build connections between the community and the football program, all while creating fun memories in the name of a good cause.
