Seniors Reign Victorious at Battle of the Classes

This year’s Battle of the Classes tournament began with the Frozen Freshmen competing against the Star Spangled Seniors, and the Superhero Sophomores competing against the Jurassic Juniors. The seniors won their round, and the juniors theirs, and at the end of the day, the seniors reigned victorious overall.

The success of Battle of the Classes relies on the cooperation of many students and staff, however the Battle captains deserve particular credit for all their spirit and organizational skills. The Frozen Freshmen battle captains were Austin Xu, Matthew Bonne, Sophia Ho and Emmy Libertoff. The Superhero Sophomores battle captains were Stephen Lyu, Morgan Penner, Celine Cheung and Emily Levy. The Jurassic Juniors battle captains were Richard You, Andy Chen, Jimin Hur and Emilie Kurniawan. The Star Spangled Seniors battle captains were Ryan Landsberg, Steven Kalamoutasakis, Samara Benjamin and Bryan Zho.

During Battle Spirit Week, students were encouraged to earn Battle points for their grade by participating in activities such as Dollar Wars, Banner Creation, and Hallway Decorating. The freshman won Dollar Wars, the juniors won the Banner Creation and the juniors won Hallway Decorating. 

Many students and staff members dressed up each day for Battle Spirit week wearing their pajamas on Monday, their country or country club outfits on Tuesday, their grades’ theme-related outfits  on Thursday and Battle shirts on Friday. Wednesday was Walter Kirby Wednesday when students and teachers dressed up as our beloved English teacher Mr. Kirby in iconic blazers and ties. He surprised everyone when he showed up to school in sweats.

Friday’s Battle tournament started with the Frozen Freshmen versus the Star Spangled Seniors who took their first-place victory in Musical Chairs, the 5-Legged Race, Mattress Slide, Knockout, and Sing Along. The seniors also had a spirited entrance and dance that represented their USA theme. Although the freshmen suffered their first defeat, they did win Dollar Wars and they made a more creative banner than the seniors. The Jurassic Juniors competed against the Superhero Sophomores which resulted in the juniors securing a win. The sophomores weren’t totally at a loss, still winning Knockout and representing their team with their artistic banner.

For the final event, the seniors guaranteed their victory by a large amount of points from competing in the games of Gatorball, Balloon Pop, Knockout, and Tug of War. Even though the juniors won the second round of Tug of War, it wasn’t enough to beat the Star Spangled Seniors who also had a more entertaining entrance and banner leaving the Jurassic Juniors with an unfortunate loss.
