The Jericho boys swimming team made waves this season, achieving historic milestones and shattering records along the way. With an outstanding effort, 9 athletes qualified for the prestigious New York State Public High School Athletic Associaiton (NYSPHSAA) championship, marking a remarkable accomplishment in the program’s history. As a team, the Jayhawks finished 12th in the Federation Meet and 10th in the Public Meet—unprecedented finishes that solidified their place among the state’s top competitors.
The team shattered records at the state level with both Matt Zhao and Tristan Yang finishing with All-State accolades. The meet started with the 200 medley relay of Engles Wang, Matt Zhao, Tommy Yuan and Kyle Kim who broke the school record and became the first relay to make an A final in school history. They finished 8th in public schools.

Matt Zhao placed 3rd in the Public School division for the 100M breaststroke, a phenomenal finish that earned him All-State honors.
Matt Zhao continued his record-breaking ways by smashing his own time in the 200 IM during the preliminaries. Zhao’s remarkable achievement didn’t stop there—he broke three school records in the competition, solidifying his status as one of the state’s top swimmers.
Tommy Yuan also had a standout performance, swimming a personal best of 1:45.75 in the 200 IM prelims, earning a second swim and finishing 20th in the Public School competition. He followed up with a 12th-place finish in the 100 fly, further contributing to the team’s success.
On the diving board, junior Tristan Yang delivered a spectacular performance, earning second place in both the Public and Federation Meet. This marks his third consecutive top-three finish at the state championships, an incredible achievement that highlights his consistent excellence.
The Jericho boys swimming team’s achievements were nothing short of extraordinary, and their record-breaking performances will be remembered as a major milestone in the history of the program. With these young athletes setting the bar high, the future of Jericho swimming looks brighter than ever.
