Jayhawks Set to Defend the Nest in Homecoming Clash vs. VSC Eagles

BY MARCUS KRANZ ’27

On Friday, Sept. 19, the Jayhawks will aim to continue their winning momentum into week two as they face off against the Valley Stream Central Eagles in Jericho’s home opener. While the Jayhawks won their first game of the season 30-8 against Roslyn, the Eagles  will look to rebound after losing 36-0 to MacArthur.

Jericho seeks to double their win total from last year in front of what should be a large crowd, as it is Jericho’s annual Sea of Blue game. The Jayhawks will look to build off quarterback Max Spector ’26, who shone against Roslyn as he threw for 113 yards and a touchdown, also scoring a rushing touchdown. In preparation for this match-up, Spector said, “We need to play assignment football and be disciplined.”

Fellow teammate and quarterback/linebacker Austin Weiss ’27 echoed Spector. He said it is important to “play clean and disciplined football in all aspects in order to win.”

Meanwhile, the Eagles’ head coach, Tom Schiavo, said, “In order to win, we need to minimize mistakes and play with discipline on offense, defense, and special teams. We have to play our best game in order to beat Jericho.”

Prediction: This should be a very tight game heading into the fourth quarter. However, I think that the Jericho offense can take over this game. Max Spector will have time to find his playmakers, and the defense will pull through in the end. Jericho will win 24-16.
