Marcus’s Postgame Pulse: Jayhawks Soar in Historic Homecoming Victory 21-20 Over VSC

BY MARCUS KRANZ ’27

On September 19, under the Friday night lights, the Jericho Jayhawks thrilled the homecoming crowd with a historic 21-20 victory over the Valley Stream Central Eagles, giving the Jayhawks a historic 2-0 start. The game was tied 14-14 going into halftime. The first half was highlighted by J.P. Wang ’26, who scored the Jayhawks’ two touchdowns. He finished the game with 17 carries for 71 yards.

The Valley Stream Central Eagles took the lead on the opening drive to start the second half. In the fourth quarter, the Jayhawks drove down the field, and Jake Morgan ’27 punched it in from 10 yards out to tie the game at 20. Kicker Max Spector ’26 added the go-ahead extra point. Jake Morgan ’27 finished the game with 13 carries for 114 yards and a touchdown, while also having 1 reception for 16 yards.

After the game, Jake Morgan ’27 reflected on his performance. Morgan said, “Scoring the game-winning touchdown at homecoming in front of the whole school has always been a dream of mine. If it weren’t for the O-line and the guys up front setting the edge, I couldn’t have done what I did Friday night. We never backed down and trusted each other. We’re not done yet, though.”

Alexander “Alex” Mizrahi ’27 continued his stellar performance on the defensive side of the ball, as he forced and recovered the game-sealing fumble with 1:01 left to go in the game.

The Jayhawks will look to continue their historic start to the season and become 3-0 as they travel to take on the MacArthur Generals at 2 P.M. on Saturday, September 27th.
