Jayhawks Seek Season Sweep Over VSC Eagles In Week 6 Battle
BY MARCUS KRANZ ’27
As the season enters its final stretch, the Jayhawks head to Valley Stream Central to take on the Eagles. The Jayhawks enter this game with renewed energy after dropping two straight. They played arguably their best game yet this past week, dispatching Roslyn 35-7, as the Jayhawk ground game took over. On the opposing side, Valley Stream Central enters this contest with a 1-4 record and is coming off a tough loss to Glen Cove, falling 38-22 after Glen Cove came back from a 22-8 deficit in the third quarter.
This will be the second time the two teams have faced each other, as the Jayhawks won the first meeting in a 21-20 thriller behind a strong rushing attack led by Jake Morgan ’27, who ran for 114 yards. Likewise, the Jayhawk defense forced a fumble to clinch the victory. Reflecting on that first meeting and looking ahead to this game, free safety and quarterback Austin Weiss ’27 emphasized the importance of discipline and togetherness. Weiss said, “We barely won last time. We have to have a clean game with no penalties. We’ve improved and bonded as a team time to go out there and ball out.”
Prediction: Jericho wins 28–21 as Max Spector ’26 throws a touchdown pass and runs for one. Wide receiver Brody Morgan ’27 has another 100-yard performance and a touchdown. The Eagles won’t be able to stop the Jayhawks’ rushing attack as J.P Wang ’26 and Jake Morgan ’27 each score a touchdown on the ground. On the defensive side, Jonathan Fortunoff ’26 records an interception, and the defense comes up huge late in the fourth quarter to seal the Jayhawks’ victory, moving them to 4–2 and keeping pace in the playoff hunt.
