Tina’s Takeaways: Week of 10/6 & Week of 10/13

BY KONSTANTINA SACOULAS ’26

Welcome to the first segment of Tina’s Takeaways, where I share the happenings of a week in the life at Jericho Schools!

To Bee or Not to Bee: A Battle of Words

On October 10, Jericho Middle School hosted their annual Spelling Bee, where the winners of the class spelling bees competed to enter into the Regional Spelling Bee Competition. All students, faculty, and parents of the spellers gathered together in the auditorium to wish students good luck. The first place winner, Steven, and the second place winner, Andrew, went to a head to head battle that kept the audience on their toes before Steven was declared the winner.

More Than a Day Off: Why Wellness Day Matters

On October 16, Jericho High School students and staff participated in Wellness Day. This stress-relieving day provides opportunities for students to decompress, develop strategies for managing stress, and engage with peers and faculty in fun, meaningful activities such as the Club Fair and presentations from a guest speaker who shared insights about mental health. During Wellness Day, JMAC led wellness activities such as Let’s Chalk About Mental Health, Mindful Walks, and Counselor Corners to help reduce the stress of their classmates. The Morgan Foundation sold their customized merch to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Research and to get everyone excited for the Play for Pink games!

Upcoming Events: Tennis With Teachers Tournament

On October 23, Girls Varsity Tennis will host their annual Tennis With Teachers Tournament where tennis players will get to choose their most athletic teacher (or their favorite teacher) to play a tennis game against their competitors. All funds will be donated to the Maurer Foundation, so come support!
