Marcus’s Postgame Pulse: Jayhawks Suffer Heartbreaking Loss Against VSC Eagles

BY MARCUS KRANZ ’27

On Saturday, October 18th, the Jericho Jayhawks took on the Valley Stream Central Eagles in an evenly-matched contest. Winning the coin toss, Jericho deferred to the second half, giving Valley Stream possession of the ball first. The Eagles marched down the field and scored, though they did not convert the two-point attempt. Jericho’s offense responded, moving downfield thanks to a 47-yard run from Jake Morgan ’27. Max Spector ’26  capped the drive with a three-yard touchdown run, but the extra point attempt was unsuccessful. The Eagles went on to score again, this time converting the two-point attempt. Jericho responded at the end of the half with a 22-yard touchdown by wide receiver Brody Morgan ’27. Hudson Gingold ’26 made an interception in the end zone to close out the first half.

Starting the second half, Jericho received the ball, but momentum quickly swung back to favor Valley Stream after the Eagles recovered an onside kick and converted it into a score, extending their lead to 20 to 12. The Jayhawks once again found the end zone as Brody Morgan’27 broke free from Valley Stream’s defense for a 30-yard touchdown.  A crucial defensive stop set up the Jayhawks’ offense for another promising drive. Unfortunately, the Jayhawks couldn’t capitalize as a fumble on the Eagles’ 15-yard line hindered the Jayhawks’ go-ahead attempt. The defense then gave up a touchdown, but they were able to stop the two-point conversion once again, keeping it a one-score game.

While the Jayhawks pushed the ball down the field once more, reaching the Eagles’ 36-yard line, Valley Stream’s Darell Augustin made a great play with an interception on a pass intended for Hudson Gingold ’26, sealing the 26-18 victory for the Eagles.

Brody Morgan ’27 finished the day with 98 receiving yards,10 rushing yards, and two touchdowns. Quarterback Max Spector ’26 finished the day going 10-for-15 with 239 total yards, accounting for all three Jayhawk touchdowns. The Jayhawks will likely need to win out to keep their postseason hopes alive, starting this Friday against Roosevelt in Jericho’s annual Play for Pink game.
