Harmony in the Spotlight: Jericho Orchestra & Chorus Shine at Fall Concert

BY ANTHONY HIRTZEL 27 & SASHA SAVEL 26

On November 12 at 7:30 p.m., the lights went down, and the music went up as Mr. Michael Lee and Ms. Elizabeth Owens led students in the Jericho Orchestra and Jericho Chorus, respectively, in outstanding Fall Concert performance.

The Fall Concert is a yearly tradition for Jericho’s Performing Arts Program, bringing together Jericho’s Orchestra, Chorus, and Combined Ensembles. Students prepared for this performance through weeks of after-school rehearsals, sectional practices, and warm-ups. The event not only showcased musical talent but also emphasized teamwork, discipline, and collaboration. Mr. Lee and Ms. Owens organized the program to highlight different musical styles, from classical arrangements to contemporary selections.

Students in the Orchestra, such as Stephen L. ’27, verbalized pride in their hard work and the stellar final event. Stephen said, “It is very relieving now that the concerts are over. I finally got all the stress out leading up to this performance. Overall, it was a great experience.”

Another performer, Ryan H. ’28, explained that playing for such a large crowd made the moment feel even more rewarding. “Honestly, it was a really good experience…I enjoyed it.” He added that it “felt good to finally play in the concert.”

Parents in the audience were equally enthusiastic. They said what stood out most was “the way Mr. Lee organized everything…everything was very good.” When asked to describe the concert in one word, the parent chose: “Excellent.”

Students also reflected on what they learned throughout the process. Ryan noted how performing in a group helped him “lead [his] section and contribute to the piece.” Stephen shared a message to his fellow performers: “Everyone did an amazing job today. I’m proud of everyone and the work they’ve done.”

The Fall Concert not only celebrated the accomplishments of Jericho’s Orchestra and Chorus students but also strengthened the community through music. With winter and spring performances ahead, both directors and students are eager to continue growing, collaborating, and creating memorable experiences for their audience.
