All Grit, No Quit: Jayhawks Varsity Girls Basketball Season Preview
BY JORDAN GREENSTEIN ’28
Are you ready for tipoff? A fresh start to a new girls basketball season has begun! Jericho’s Varsity Girls Basketball Team has put a lot of time into practice and have worked hard to become an even force to be reckoned with this upcoming season, which officially began on December 1.
Last season, the team’s record was 7-7 in conference. This year, the team’s hope is to achieve beyond any and all expectations. Led by Coach Allison D’Antonio, the team is focused on channeling their immense talent toward winning games. One of these talents is senior co-captain Sadie Krangle ’26, who, as a junior last year, hit the 1000 point scorer title.
A goal for the season, according to Coach D’Antonio, is consistency on both offense and defense. Coach D’Antonio said, “the team needs to stay in every game and attack all challenges and setbacks with confidence and poise….We have the talent offensively, but we need to translate to a more well-rounded game, specifically on the boards. We can’t win games if we allow teams to get three or four chances to score on a single possession.”
Krangle ’26 agreed that the team should prioritize growing holistically. Krangle said, “We are aiming for a season filled with many opportunities to learn and grow as players and as people.” Krangle also stated that as a captain, her goal is to inspire younger teammates both on and off the court, motivating them to play well. Krangle said, “as captain alongside my fellow co-captains, we plan to leave a seed of inspiration for the younger members of the team and hope to guide any of my teammates who need it. I plan to make sure the energy is always high and make sure everyone is motivated no matter if we win or lose.”
Krangle also mentioned the importance of communication in building a winning season. Krangle said, “Our team will focus on communication on and off the court. In addition, we need to focus on giving one hundred percent at all times, no matter the situation.”
Both Coach D’Antonio and Krangle emphasized the importance of performing under pressure for the Jayhawks’ success this season. Coach D’Antonio said, “Learning to weather runs, execute under pressure, and finish games is an area we’ll be focusing on. Basketball is a game of runs, and we have to continue to show up, step up, and play to our ability when the pendulum is swinging in the other team’s way, because ours is just around the corner.”
Overall, it is clear that the 2025-2026 varsity girls basketball season will be a successful one thanks to the reflective nature of the team’s leadership. With a focus on grit, chemistry, and court vision, the team will surely hoop with heart, leading to a successful season in conference.
