Back at the Mat: Girls Wrestling 2025-2026 Season Preview

BY ADITI RAMANATHAN ’26

As the new girls wrestling season approaches with returning energy and attitudes, there are also new recruits and returning standouts from last season.

Girls Wrestling Coach Mr. Shotter was a champion high school wrestler back in the nineties and feels great passion toward being the coach of the Jericho High School girls wrestling team. This season, according to Mr. Shotter, is already exceptional for the team, as they have increased their wrestler count to 13. “We have the most girls we’ve ever had,” said Mr. Shotter, “We have an official team.”

As the new season begins with fresh energy, there are also four returning wrestlers with one wrestler who, according to Mr. Shotter, will be in the spotlight this season. “Jimin right now is gonna be the kid to watch as a senior,” said Mr.Shotter, in reference to Jimin Hur ’26, who has been ranked as one of Newsday’s top 50 girls wrestlers to watch for the 2025-2026 season. Jimin also finished second in the 2025 Nassau County Championships and competed in the inaugural New York State All-female state championship in late February of 2025.

Overall, it is evident that the Jayhawks are ready to hit the mat again, harnessing last year’s successes and fresh energy to have an unmatched season.
