Courtside Chronicles: Girls Varsity Basketball Week 1 Recap
BY JORDAN GREENSTEIN ’28
The Jericho Girls Varsity Basketball Team has started off their season strong with a 4-0 overall (1-0 conference) record in the 25-26 season. Co-captain and top 5 scorer in Nassau County Sadie Krangle ’26 had a red hot start, averaging 21.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.3 3 pointers made per game. But Krangle was not the only component contributing to the Jayhawks’ success; the entire team played together in unity leading to a first week of excellence.
Point guard and shooting guard Aditi Ramanathan ’26 spoke about how the Jayhawks have already substantially improved their courtside execution compared to last season. Ramanathan said, “Defensively, we have been able to communicate a lot better than last year, which results in many steals and fastbreaks, the team practices have resulted in better offensive pace and easy baskets. Our team coordination is off to a strong start.”
Co-captain and pointguard Miley Yakuel ’26 emphasized how a tight defense and strong offensive ability to distribute the rock has contributed to the undefeated season so far. Yakuel said, “Our team has been really good with getting the ball around to everyone and passing. We have also done a great job pressing the other team which made them slow down which helped us get the ball for the next possession.”
The next two games will be played at the Jayhawks’ home court. On Wednesday, December 10, Jericho will face Holy Trinity, who has a 1-1 overall record. On Saturday, December 13, Jericho will face a tough game against Calhoun, who has a 3-1 overall record.
