Programming for Progress: Jericho Welcomes New Director of Technology

BY LOGAN FULLER ’28

At the start of the 2025-2026 school year, the Jericho School District welcomed a new Head of Technology, Mr. Michael Larkin. Before Jericho, Mr. Larkin worked in education for 22 years in the New York City Department of Education and at the Plainedge School District. In NYC, Mr. Larkin started as a teacher and then worked with programmers to build data systems and apps for teachers and principals to use. Following his work in the city, Mr. Larkin moved to Long Island and worked in Plainedge, where he supervised systems integration and assisted the school district with the management of applications such as Google Classroom, ClassLink, GoGuardian, and ParentSquare. Ultimately, all of Mr. Larkin’s experience brought him to Jericho, where he is already making his mark.

Mr. Larkin has always been a tech-savvy person, but when Google Education tools came out, he realized his passion for educational technology, specifically. Mr. Larkin said, “The more I started using and learning about technology, the more I liked to work with teachers and principals to integrate it into the classroom, making sure that they have the right tools to improve instruction and also help students learn how to use technology.” Mr. Larkin is already succeeding in enhancing accessibility at Jericho, as he is streamlining access to learning management systems and demonstrating the many tools teachers can use at staff meetings, not only helping teachers but also helping students.

While Jericho is incredibly lucky to welcome Mr. Larkin to the nest, he is also grateful to be here. He’s especially grateful for Jericho’s “strong sense of community and shared commitment to excellence.” Mr. Larkin said, “At Jericho, there’s a genuine focus on doing what’s best for students and the school district’s mission across all departments in the school district.”

Mr. Larkin’s role consists of a lot of responsibilities. While no two days look the same, Mr. Larkin’s day usually includes supporting staff, solving technology problems, and planning future initiatives. Mr. Larkin always ensures that the school’s systems are secure and that the technology is running smoothly.

Ultimately, Mr. Larkin looks forward to continuing to build on Jericho’s technological foundation. “I’m excited to continue strengthening instructional technology, supporting responsible and effective use of AI, and ensuring our systems are secure, equitable, and sustainable,” said Mr. Larkin. “I’m especially interested in initiatives that empower teachers and enhance student learning.” Mr. Larkin’s work at Jericho will surely transcend just technology; by championing teacher empowerment, he is certain to drive lasting change for years to come.
