Courtside Chronicles: February Edition

BY JORDAN GREENSTEIN ’28

On February 2, the Jericho Girls Varsity Basketball Team won their Senior Night Game against Bellmore with a score of 54-43, clinching the Jayhawks a well-earned spot in the playoffs.

The Jayhawks’ winning ways took a turn on February 5, when Jericho lost to New Hyde Park in an end-of-season thriller with a score of 44-48. New Hyde Park’s Maeve Downing scored 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Jericho’s Sadie Krangle ’26 scored 17 points and Sonia Ngai ’28 scored 14 points.

On February 14, Jericho lost to an undefeated MacArthur squad with a brutal score of 25-65. However, the Jayhawks turned their tide on February 19 as they played their first round of playoffs against Mepham. Emerging victorious 46-36, the Jayhawks soar into their second playoff game against the powerhouse that is MacArthur.

Krangle attributes the team’s win against Mepham to the team’s ability to learn from their losses. “After our two losses, we were able to communicate more with each other both on and off the court,” said Krangle, who said that the losses forced the team to “put all of our focus into basketball, especially being focused in practice. We wanted to prioritize our offensive possessions too. I think that really made the difference.”

Facing off against the MacArthur Generals on February 28 at MacArthur, the Jayhawks face their biggest season challenge yet.
